Care Certificate Standard 4: Equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights

This standard focuses on treating people fairly, respecting difference and promoting care that is inclusive, anti-discriminatory and grounded in human rights.

What This Standard Covers

Recognising discrimination, exclusion, bias and unequal treatment.
Supporting people in ways that respect identity, culture, beliefs and preferences.
Understanding how human rights principles apply to care practice.

Why It Matters

Standard 4 strengthens person-centred care by making inclusion explicit. It helps staff understand how values, language, assumptions and systems can affect people’s experience of care, and what good practice looks like in response.
