Training
The Care Certificate is the recognised UK standard for onboarding new care staff. It sets out the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.
For care homes, nursing homes and domiciliary care providers, the Care Certificate ensures that all new employees meet a consistent standard before working independently.
The Care Certificate is designed for staff who are new to care roles, including care assistants, support workers, healthcare assistants, and domiciliary care workers. It is typically completed as part of induction.
Firstly, it provides an effective way to induct staff who are new to care, encouraging them to think about their role, responsibilities, and duties. It is also expected by regulators, including the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and is aligned with guidance from Skills for Care. This helps ensure staff have the essential knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care. In most cases, all new care staff should complete the Care Certificate as part of their induction.
The Care Certificate is made up of 16 standards that cover the core areas of care practice. Each standard requires both knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in real care settings.
The Care Certificate is not just a course. It is a structured programme that combines training, observation and assessment to confirm that staff can demonstrate competence in real situations, not just complete written answers.
Assessors or managers are responsible for confirming when each standard has been achieved.
Correct Care makes completing and managing the Care Certificate simple, structured and fully trackable.
Learners complete Care Certificate training online through engaging, easy-to-follow modules that cover each standard.
Staff can record answers, reflections and evidence directly within the system, helping them demonstrate competence clearly.
Assessors can review and sign off each standard within the platform. They are also alerted when learners complete sections, ensuring nothing is missed and speeding up the sign-off process.
With all training, evidence and sign-offs stored digitally, Correct Care helps you demonstrate compliance quickly and confidently during inspections.
Completing the Care Certificate helps care providers build a safer, more consistent workforce while giving new employees a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities from day one.
The Care Certificate is not a formal qualification. It is a set of employer-led standards used to support induction and ensure staff have the essential knowledge and skills to work safely in care settings.
It is also important not to confuse this with the newer Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate, which is a regulated, NVQ-style qualification. This qualification is based on the Care Certificate standards but goes further, with formal assessment and recognition that is transferable between employers.
The Care Certificate itself remains widely recognised across the UK care sector and is often required by employers. It provides a strong foundation for further training and can support progression on to formal qualifications, including the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate and other diplomas in health and social care.
Correct Care brings everything together in one place, reducing administration, improving visibility and helping your organisation remain fully compliant.
If you are looking for a simple, effective way to deliver and manage the Care Certificate, Correct Care provides everything you need to support your staff and stay inspection ready.
